  1. Painting: the cyclops
    Author: Odilon Redon
    Style: impressionism
    Date: 1898
main features:Polyphemus (A cyclop) is shown as a non-threatening passive creature. Galatea, the naiad, is shown naked and vulnerably lying on a patch of vegetation. He has hidden himself from Galatea behind the rocky terrain, too shy to directly confront her "helpless" form.

  2. Painting: Impression, soleil levant
    Author: Claude Monet
    Style: Impresionism
    Date: 1872
Main features: The imagery of this work of art presents a focus on the calm feeling of a misty maritime scene. Slightly below the center of the painting, a small rowboat with two indistinct figures floats in the bay. The early morning sun is depicted rising over the foggy harbour with ships and other various boats at port. The shadows of the boats and figures and the reflection of the sun’s rays can be seen on the water’s surface. Monet incorporates a palette of mostly cool, dull colors into the painting with blues and grays, but also includes splashes of warm colors noticed in the sky and the red-orange sun.

  3. -Painting: Bain à la Grenouillère
    -Author: Claude Monet
    -Style: Impresionism
    -Date: 1869–1869
-Main features: The London National Gallery (Bathers at La Grenouillere, oil on canvas, are probably the sketches mentioned by Monet in his letter. A bigger size painting, now lost but formerly in the Arnhold collection in Berlin, may well have been the "tableau" that he dreamed of. The broad, constructive brushstrokes here are clearly those of a sketch. For his exhibition pictures Monet usually sought a more delicate and carefully calibrated surface at this time.

  4. Painting: Luncheon on the Grass

    Author: Édouard Manet

    Style: Impresionism

    Date: 1863

Main features: Although the figures represented are human, the author works the box like a still life. This is evidenced by the lack of connection with other characters, three characters are dressed while the room is bare; eyes never meet even if a person talking and layout first (basket and food), second (group) and Third (woman in water) is purely compositional. This work will influence the Impressionists neglect model and narration.

  5. -PAINTING: The Railway (The Gare Saint-Lazare)
    -AUTHOR: Edouard Manet
    -STYLE: Impressionism
    -DATE: 1872
-MAIN FEATURES: The Impressionists and Post Impressionists were the first artists to find poetry in the ceaseless movement of the modern city, of which the railway was an integral part.
The Gare Saint-Lazare was the focus of many Impressionist paintings because a number of artists had studios in this area of Paris. Their interest in capturing the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere led them to paint the station and its surroundings animated by steam and smoke. They were also attracted by the engineering of the bridge.

  9. -Painting: The Cliff at Fecamp
    -Author: Claude Monet
    -Style: Impressionism
    -Date: 1881
-Main features: This cliff painting is one of a series created at Grainval.
It reflects the artist’s philosophy that "landscape is nothing but an impression - an instantaneous one." Monet waited and watched the shifting sun and shadows and then quickly brushed in the moment he wanted. He liked to paint the same scene many times so he could study the effects of changing light and weather.

  10. .- Painting: "Un dimanche après-midi à l'Ile de la Grande Jatte".
    .- Author: Georges Seurat.
    .- Style: Post-Impressionism.
    .- Date: 1884-1886.
.- Main features: It is an example of pointillism considered by many one of the most important paintings of the XIX century.

The Island of La Grande Jatte is in the Seine River in Paris between "La Défense" and the suburb of Neuilly, divided by the Pont-de-Levallois. Although for many years was an industrial site, in recent years it happened to hold public gardens and a residential complex. In 1884 it was a bucolic landscape away from the center of town.

  11. Painting:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/The_Scream.jpg
    Author: Edvard Munch
    Style: Post impressionism
    Date: 1893
Main features: One early version of this scene was created by Edvard Munch on a cardboard surface, using tempera, oil paints, and pastels together. Another version is only done with tempera on cardboard, and these early versions have almost violent, explosive strokes across the surface that deliver a high impact on the viewer. One of the later versions of The Scream was a lino print done in black and white only. Edvard Munch liked to add shadows and auras of color around his main subjects to add to the intensity of their emotions.

  16. By: Miguel Hernández 4B

    -Author: Vincent van Gogh
    -Style: " Post-impressionism".
    -Date: October of 1889
Main features: The Mulberry Tree shows a tree from the garden of the asylum. It is centered on the canvas and is growing alone from a rocky hillside. The ground is made up of short quick brushstrokes of white and pale browns. It creates a strong contrast to the dark green and brown of the tree trunk. To the right, you see more greens, indicating trees and growth in the distance. The leaves of the tree make up the majority of the painting, orange against the complementary color of the blue sky. It is that “superb autumn” that gave Vincent the bright orange leaves to paint. The ground and sky are made up of mostly straight diagonal brushstrokes, while the tree leaves are made up of curling spirals of orange and black, sometimes done with the handle of his brush.
